"Build Your Own Cedar Strip Canoe." Build Your Own Cedar Strip Canoe. N.p., n.d. Web. 30 Jan. 2013. This is an incredibly in depth description of how one guy built a canoe. It has pictures and goes into incredible detail.

"Building a Cedar Strip Canoe." YouTube. YouTube, 17 July 2010. Web. 04 Feb. 2013. This was a beautiful video that takes you step by step through another canoe build-showing another approach to building the boat. I say, the more approaches, the better.

"Building a Steam Box." Www.highlandwoodworking.com. N.p., n.d. Web. This is another approach to building the steam box.

"Canoe Building." Canoe Building. N.p., n.d. Web. 04 Feb. 2013. This source is also a beautiful how-to. It gives a list of tools you will need at the very beginning, and also outlines costs of many of the materials and finishing such as building seats.

I wanted to learn more about what happened to the Native Americans when the whites settled in this area. This is an article about a recent court case where disputes are still occurring, which is pretty fascinating.

Chen, Jonlin, Ms. Personal interview. Jonlin is an expert in advanced math, so I think she will be able to help me if I get stuck with calculations on buoyancy and density, so my canoe does not sink.

"Dragging Canoe's Timeline." N.p., n.d. Web. This was a beautiful explanation of how canoes have evolved over time, which will be helpful in understanding their history and why they are they way they are today.

Eddlestone, James, Mr. Personal interview. This is a friend who does a lot of his own woodworking and building, and who has offered to answer any questions I might have.

Flash, Steve. Telephone interview. 30 Jan. 2013. This interview was incredibly helpful. I was given a lot of advice on the best way to go about building a boat. I also got to hear a lot of interesting, personal stories about sailing and boating.

This is related to my macro research about canoeing in the area of New York State, and has information on the best places I could take my canoe of adventures.

This is another article on the hydrilla problem in Cayuga Lake, which I'd like to understand quite well as part of the macro-research. I'd also like to understand how it affects the ecosystem.

"THE HISTORY OF THE CANOE." THE HISTORY OF THE CANOE. N.p., n.d. Web. 04 Feb. 2013. This article is a very in-depth history of canoeing in North America, which I'm super excited to read. It also includes beautiful, hand-drawn pictures.

"How to Make a Steambox for Bending Wood." The Instructables. N.p., n.d. Web. 04 Feb. 2013. This website gives a good description on how you can build your own steam box cheaply and simply and out of things most people already have in their homes, which is awesome.

Jackson, Tom. "Keeping Up With Young Boatbuilders." Wooden Boat Magazine Feb. 2013: 15. Web. This article is about a group of 7th and 8th graders who built a dory as a class project. It goes into detail on their construction, and will be helpful if I am ever feeling discouraged because if middle school students can build a boat why can't I?

John, Julia M. "Canoes." Pinterest. N.p., n.d. Web. 04 Feb. 2013. This is a Pinterest board I made myself of pictures of canoes of various shapes and sizes, which will be helpful in picking how I want the canoe to look, and is something I can add and subtract from as I further my project.

Jones, Teg. "Boats." Message to the author. 29 Jan. 2013. E-mail. This email showed me pictures of the boat that Teg built, as well as gave me additional websites to explore.

Jones, Teg. "Interview." Personal interview. 29 Jan. 2013. This interview was extremely helpful. Teg is extremely knowledgeable on pretty much everything related to boats, and has built his own boat. He has offered to answer questions and offer advice in the future.

Kasanof, David. "Why Do We Do This?" Wooden Boat Magazine Jan.-Feb. 2013: 11. Web. This was a fascinating article about boat made out of vegetable matter. It was an interesting, new approach to building a boat out of a material that is a little abnormal, but makes repairs remarkably easy. This article will help me to think outside the box.

Lansing, Alfred. Endurance; Shackleton's Incredible Voyage. New York: McGraw-Hill, 1959. Print. I struggled to find a book with a biography on a famous canoer, because there really aren't any famous canoers, or at least none that wrote their life stories down. So this is a biography of Shackleton's famous sail to Antarctica and struggle he and his crew faced. It will give me a taste of the adventure of boating.

Lawrence, Keith E. The Complete Guide to Boat Kits & Plans. 10th ed. Denville, NJ (Box 3000, Dept. TT, Denville, NJ 07834): Boatbuilder, 1996. Print. This book was lent to me by Steve Flash, and is full of helpful hints in building boats out of wood. It is also a catalog of plans for building, which might be quite useful.

"Naming of Parts Canoes | How To Articles - GuideLines: Paddling.net." Naming of Parts Canoes. N.p., n.d. Web. 04 Feb. 2013. This source helped me to very clearly identify all the parts of a canoe, something I will need to be extremely familiar with for my project.

Print. This book would be helpful in my macro research on the history of canoeing and its origins.

"Remembering Canoe Pioneer Ralph Frese." Paddling Life Magazine. N.p., n.d. Web. 04 Feb. 2013. I couldn't find a book about a canoer, but this is actually the obituary of an expert paddler, which is something of a biography, and I found that this man lived a very interesting life.

This was just a beautifully written editorial about one man's love of boating with his dad. It was just so perfectly done that I couldn't not cite it so I could find it again.

"Splitsider." Splitsider. N.p., 19 July 2011. Web. 04 Feb. 2013. This is a very helpful website with a wonderful video on canoe building narrated by the guy from National Treasure. Very entertaining as well as informative.

Stephens, Robert W., and Graham Byrnes. "The Ocracoke 20." Wooden Boat Magazine Jan.-Feb. 2013: 90-94. Web. This article describes the crafting of a sportsfisherman, a motor boat actually, but the hull is made of wood. There is a detailed description and many pictures of how the "guts" of this boat were put together.

Stuhaug, Dennis O. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Canoeing and Kayaking. Indianapolis: Alpha, 2004. Print. This book has great information on the best shape of a canoe to build, as well as boating safety.

Van, Leuven Susan. Illustrated Guide to Wood Strip Canoe Building. Atglen, PA: Schiffer Pub., 1998. Print. This book is written especially for people who have never built boats before, which is a good fit for me.

"Woodworking 101: The Basics." Woodworking 101: The Basics. N.p., n.d. Web. 05 Feb. 2013. This is a list of common problems newbies to woodworking typically face. This will be good to look at before I start, perhaps tape to the wall and read every day, so I can hopefully avoid making these mistakes.
